I was born in India, but have spent most of my time abroad, in South East Asia, and for a while in the UK. I have been working on sustainable development for the past 5 years. I am based in India but also worked in other parts of Asia and a bit in Europe. In India, I have the pleasure of working in and for one of the most chaotic and challenging, but rewarding, business and policy environments. The context of living, growing up and working in various countries and places ranks as one of my favourite qualities of what I have experienced and has shaped how I view and do things. I’ve never been one for motivational sayings and philosophies to live by, but I did hear this one line from a person who explained it wonderfully, “to have a worldview based on human nature”, something I try to follow in what I do.
In this subject of sustainable development, I have the pleasure of having one of my biggest passions being the work I do dayin, dayout (my daily reading list can be excessively boring). I’ve been able to work with some of the biggest companies on the planet and some of the smallest, with governments writing national policies, funding agencies on multimillion dollar projects, social enterprises doing the most innovative things, and collaborating with experts in disparate sectors rarely would one think of a link with sustainability, and has taken me through to national awards, and invitations to amazing networks; an experience that has just been wonderful right through.
I have succumbed to the glamour of the startup life, cofounding a startup, TheWorks@, in my hometown Chennai, which is a platform for entrepreneurs, startups, to access infrastructure, networks, resources, services and opportunities of the entrepreneurial ecosystem to be more successful with minimal friction.
More than anything, it this firsthand experience of TheWorks@, of working within ecosystems, with communities, networks, organizations and individuals, that has led me to see the unique proposition of an institution like IC in what it can do, by mobilizing the talent and calibre of individuals to create value.
