One of the best gifts my parents gave me was the gift of transience and mobility from a very young age. I was born in Oklahoma, moved to upstate New York, then to Missouri, and finally to California. I was also fortunate to have a huge diversity of schooling experiences – public, private, charter, homeschooling – and this allowed me to feel as if I could live and learn anywhere in the world. As a student at UC Berkeley, I immediately enrolled myself in several languages classes (Russian, Romanian, Czech), throwing myself into the art of translation and creative communication. I completed a degree in Russian & Linguistics, spent some time studying in Moscow, and later moved to Shijiazhuang, China to teach ESL for a year before returning to the San Francisco Bay Area. For the last five years I've worked in the student travel segment, first as Regional Sales & Partnerships Manager at Hostelling International USA, then as Director of Student Development at WeTravel. It's important to me to work in spaces that empower youth, and making travel experiences accessible to young people is a huge priority for me.
